Financial AidMusic students have many opportunities for financial aid through both the University and the Department of Music. Please look over these options carefully. Some scholarships and awards are strictly for undergraduates or graduates, while others are open to all. Also familiarize yourself with the eligibility and retention criteria. If you have questions about a specific music award, please contact the department. For all other inquiries, please contact Student Financial Aid at 504-280-6603. There are several types of scholarships and stipends available. Descriptions of individual scholarships and eligibility criteria are available here. Important notes:
The Department of Music offers a variety of Talent and/or Service Scholarships through its various performance areas: Accompanying, Instrumental, Jazz Studies, Piano, Strings, Voice, and Wind Ensemble. Scholarship amounts range from $50 - $1,000 per semester up to four years. There are two types of scholarships: Talent and Service. Service scholarships are based on assigned responsibilities. Minimum EligibilityEntering Freshman and transfer Classical, Jazz Studies and Music Education students who have successfully completed an audition and have been admitted to the Department of Music are eligible. Please Note:All the above awards/recognitions will be considered at the same time. The process begins in late January with the creation of nominations and supporting materials by faculty and the Music Department Office. The faculty meet in late February/March to determine all Department selections. Student Workers and Work Study Students eligible for Work Study and other students interested in working in the department are welcome to apply in the Music Office. Student workers can gain experience on our stage crew, in our piano lab, and in the office.
