Dr. Charles Taylor is an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of New Orleans, serving as Director of Instrumental Ensembles and Coordinator of Music Education. He conducts the wind ensemble, teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting, supervises student teachers, and teaches instrumental music education courses. Dr. Taylor holds the degrees Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Music Education and Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Prior to his appointment to the University of New Orleans, Dr. Taylor taught middle school and high school instrumental music for 14 years in Ohio.

Dr. Taylor serves as the conductor of the New Orleans Concert Band and as music director of the New Orleans Civic Symphony Orchestra. He is active as a guest conductor and clinician and serves as the new music reviewer for the Louisiana Music Educators Association. Dr. Taylor has been active in the area of new music performance, premiering the works of several young composers, including Jude Traxler, Anthony Cipolone, Moiya Callahan, Tom Schneller, Ivica Bukvic, Jeffery Cadwell, Alexis Bacon, and Chris Watts. He has collaborated in performance with several soloists, including violinist Helen Kim, pianists Robert Roux and Robin Williams, members of eighth blackbird, composer Michael Torke, flutist Bradley Garner, and trombonist Mark Babbitt, among others.
