The Aulos Ensemble
Tuesday, September 23, 2008 – 7:30 PM

Formed in 1973 by five graduates of the Juilliard School, the Aulos Ensemble was at the forefront of a movement that has captured the imagination of the American listening public.  The group's artistic intelligence, based on informed scholarly insight, along with an uncompromising standard of excellence, has resulted in invitations from virtually all of America’s major chamber music presenters.  Its performances have helped to create a new appreciation of the rich rewards of original instrument performance and have earned admiration from America’s most respected critics, who call Aulos concerts “scintillating,” “virtuosic,” “rare and delightful,” and “authentic baroque performance at its best.”

The players of New York’s Aulos Ensemble were fluid singers all, their lines never losing clarity or shape, always sounding flexible and spontaneous. This was authentic Baroque performance at its best.”  -- The New York Times

American Brass Quintet
Tuesday, March 24, 2009 – 7:30 PM

American BrassCurrently in its forty-eighth season, the American Brass Quintet has been internationally recognized as one of the premiere chamber music ensembles of our time. The American Brass Quintet’s rich history includes performances in Europe, Central and South America, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and all fifty of the United States; a discography of over fifty recordings; the premieres of over one-hundred contemporary brass works, and in the last decade, mini-residencies that have brought the American Brass Quintet’s chamber music expertise to countless young musicians and institutions worldwide.

"A spectacular demonstration of ensemble virtuosity.  The brilliance of their playing is matched by the extraordinary sonics:  crystalline definition, airy spaciousness, superb             Photo by Richard Frank                                    presence and an overall clarity that is positively breathtaking."  -- The New York Times

Jonita Lattimore, soprano
Tuesday, April 14, 2009 – 7:30 PM

Jonita Lattimore, a lyric soprano of immense vocal range and expressive musicality, has garnered plaudit for her vivid portrayals of roles ranging from Micaela to Jackie O, as well as oratorio Jonita Lattimoreperformances with major orchestras across the United States and abroad. John von Rhein from the Chicago Tribune calls Lattimore’s soprano a "richly upholstered voice with secure line and coloratura." She "is surely destined for great things."  Her latest CD, Only Heaven, a collaboration of five singers, was called "the most distinctive music heard all season" by USA Today.  A native of Chicago, Lattimore has performed with great orchestras around the globe, including the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Please join us for a memorable performance by Lattimore at the University of New Orleans!

“Soprano Jonita Lattimore found the redemptive heart of the music in a solo part that began with repeated invocations of the word “sorrow” and rose through vaulting melodic fights to end with “comfort.”  -- Chris Waddington, The Times-Picayune
