Music Studies Program Admission

Admission to the Music Studies program requires department consent.

Performance Track: Students wishing to earn a degree with a performance emphasis must formally audition. The Music Studies advisor will help you arrange your audition with the appropriate faculty members and will discuss your audition materials with you. General guidelines can be found under Music Education. Knowledge of written theory will also be assessed.

Non-Performance Track: All other prospective Music Studies students must complete a pre-admission screening and be accepted by the Department before being admitted into the Music Studies program. The screening includes:

  • an introductory skills assessment---including singing of major scales and a short written theory examination and
  • an interview with one or more Music Studies faculty and
  • a demonstration of your performance skills.
(Note: Auditions are required if/when you wishes to transfer into another Music degree program.)
